NAMAKKAL: Stating that the proposed Road Transport and Safety Bill 2015 are only to favour corporates and grab the rights of the common people, State Lorry Owners’ Federation – Tamil Nadu has extended its support to the one-day strike called by various trade unions on April 30.

Federation president K. Nallathambi, in a press release issued here on Saturday, said that if the Bill is passed and implemented, it would affect the lorry owners and drivers at a large.

Facing closure

“The industry is already facing closure due to toll charges and inadequate drivers. It would further put hardship on all”, he said.

He said that the existing Motor Vehicles Act will be withdrawn and registration of motor vehicles, issuance of fitness certificate and driving licence will be outsourced to private companies.

“Only the private will grow”, he added.

Hence, the All India Road Transport Workers’ Federation has called for nationwide strike on April 30 and the federation supports it.

“Lorries in the State will not ply between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the day, “he added.
