The Tamil Nadu Sand Lorry Owners Federation (TNSLOF) has urged the state government to form a separate flying squad with armed police personnel – on a par with the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) headed by an Additional SP to prevent illegal sale of liquor – to put an end to the illegal sand mining menace in the state.
President of the Federation Sella. Rajamani told The Hindu that the government should also take stringent action on persons by booking them under Goondas Act and cancelling the permit of trucks involved in the menace.
According to him, there are nearly 1.75 lakh sand mining trucks attached to the 45 sand lorry associations across the state that are affiliated to the federation.
“Trucks owners by our members don't indulge in illegal mining or attacking officials as this is our fulltime business”, he said and added that the federation is ready to take action on members found guilty of illegal mining.
He stated that local thugs and persons misusing political power alone indulge in illegal mining.
