Lorry mows down girl, driver held

An 11-year-old girl was mowed down by a lorry on Gudiyatham to Pernambut Road on Monday evening. The girl, Gayathri, a resident of Ethangal, was returning from a shop near a bus stop in the village.

A Bengaluru-bound lorry knocked the class V girl down from behind. She was rushed to the government hospital at Gudiyatham where she was treated, and later referred to a private hospital in Vellore. Police said she succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.

Police attached to Gudiyatham Taluk station registered a case and arrested lorry driver Syed Maula, a resident of Bangarupet.
