Livestock health camp for tribals at Thalayanai

Animal birth control, deworming and vaccination were done

Veterinary College and Research Institute here organised a livestock health camp for tribes at Thalayanai in the district on Wednesday.

The camp was organised under ICAR sub-project on ‘Tribal sub-plan of veterinary type culture collection network project.’ T.N. Ganesh, Director of Clinics (in-charge), Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai, who inaugurated the camp, released a guide on ‘Basic concept for prevention of rabies.’

S. Prathaban, Dean, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Tirunelveli, gave a gist on the facilities being extended by the college to the livestock owners of Tirunelveli.

S. Balasubramanian, Professor, Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Madras Veterinary College, Chennai, R. Ramprabhu, Head, Veterinary Clinical Complex, S. Malmarugan, co-ordinator of the project, faculty members and veterinary students participated in the camp.

Veterinary services like animal birth control in dogs, deworming for sheep and goats and vaccination for backyard poultry were extended by a team of experts from the college in the livestock health camp for the benefit of the tribal farming community.

During this camp, animal birth control was done in 40 dogs, 25 dogs were vaccinated against rabies, deworming was carried out to 53 sheep and goats and 98 desi fowls were vaccinated with Oral Pellet Vaccine against Ranikhet disease.
