January 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - VELLORE:

Farmers in Vellore have urged the State government to immediately allot funds and take up works for the Thenpennai — Palar linking project.

At a meeting of the Tamizhaga Vivasaigal Sangam on Wednesday, farmers said the State government had announced that it would implement the project that will provide water source for five northern districts in Tamil Nadu.

The project will link Thenpennai with Palar through Kallaru and join Palar at Vaniyambadi.

The farmers urged the government to declare Vellore district as a drought-prone one and take steps to develop the district that is facing acute water scarcity for long.
