The picturesque Kolaathu Kombai lake in the foothills of Belappadi hills in Vazhapadi block has filled up after five years, bringing much joy to the local people, particularly the farming community.

All the water bodies in the district remained dry for the past few years due to continuous monsoon failure. . Due to this, the ground water level went down alarmingly leading to panic among the farming community.

A majority of the water bodies in the district received adequate flow of water thanks to the recent widespread rainfall experienced by the district in the recent past.

The lake situated in Kolaathu Kombai village received good inflow through the streams flowing from the Arunutrumalai hills. The lake is surrounded by the arecanut trees and coconut tree groves and as such attracting a large number of people.

The lake is not deep and is also free from slush, as such a large number of young boys swim in the water using worn out car tubes.

The local farmers say that the lake brimming to its capacity augurs well for a bumper crop. The ground water level will get recharged and this will also ease the drinking water problem to a big extent, they say.
