The first customer care centre of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) in Tamil Nadu will be opened shortly in Madurai.
Called the ‘LIC customer zone,’ it will be a cash collection centre, besides offering a range of services including policy servicing, J. Chakrapani, Senior Divisional Manager, LIC Madurai Division, told The Hindu here on Sunday.
Another centre has been sanctioned for Chennai.
The centre is part of the modernisation process involving Enterprise Document Management System (EDMS) making all records available in electronic form.
Eventually, the aim was to offer ‘any-time anywhere-service’ to customers across the country, he said. Under EDMS, all records of Madurai LIC division up to March 2009 had been digitised.
Another significant achievement was that the division had crossed one lakh policies and Rs. 100 crore in premium in the current financial year. “Already, we are the number one among the eight divisions of Tamil Nadu in terms of volume of policies issued,” said Mr. Chakrapani.
As part of the Insurance Week celebrations starting from September 1, a major drive to popularise ‘Alternative channels of premium payment’ will be undertaken. Customers will be encouraged to use Electronic Clearance System (ECS), Automated Teller Machines (ATM), online, in premium points manned by LIC agents and through portals of payment gateways, he said.
