Accusing the Jayalalithaa government of obstructing the execution of Centre-funded development and welfare schemes in the State, Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah appealed to the voters to back his party in the May 16 election to make the State number one in the country.
Addressing an election campaign meeting at Tenkasi on Wednesday, he said that the BJP was keen on providing clean administration, as being given by the Modi-led government at the Centre for the past two years, also in Tamil Nadu, which had been ruined by corrupt administration of the DMK and the AIADMK.
While taking credit for giving Rs. 5,000 each as relief to the flood victims of Chennai though the Centre had released Rs. 2,000 crore, Ms. Jayalalitha was obstructing the implementation of Centre-funded welfare and development schemes such as free LPG connections to poor women, rural roads scheme, drawn on an outlay of Rs. 180 crore, financial assistance to young entrepreneurs under Mudhra Scheme, crop insurance for sugarcane farmers, etc.
Mr. Modi had planned several Tamil Nadu-centric development schemes, Mr. Shah said.
He claimed that no Tamil fisherman was killed by Sri Lankan navy after Mr. Modi became Prime Minister. “At the same time, more than 600 fishermen were killed by the navy of the island nation when Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance government was in power, for which the DMK and the Congress should be held responsible,” the BJP president said.
Union Minister of State for Shipping and Highways Pon. Radhakrishnan said that the Tamil Nadu voters should wipe out both the DMK and the AIADMK in the election.

Introducing six BJP candidates from Kanyakumari district at a meeting in Nagercoil later in the day, Mr. Shah said that the previous UPA government, in which the DMK was a partner, induclged in corruption in all the ‘Pancha Boodhams’ (five elements).
Former Union Minister A. Raja was lodged in jail for the 2G scam.
Leaders of the two Dravidian parties were facing trials in corruption cases, Mr. Shah said.
The AIADMK government blocked many Central schemes, including a scheme to open low-cost pharmacies in the State.
It did not spare sand and mining sector and even milk for amassing wealth, Mr. Shah said.
