Forest Department officials on Sunday took possession of the carcass of a female leopard, which was found dead in the forest fringes in Puliamparai in Gudalur Forest Range.

There was no injury mark on the leopard. But the officials suspected that there could be internal injuries. The officials were awaiting the results of post mortem. If necessary, the officials would send parts of the body for further medical examination.

According to sources, the animal could have died on Saturday evening or night.

About a month ago, a leopard was found dead after it was caught in a trap laid for deer. The officials after investigation had arrested two tribal persons.
