Learning the fundamentals of law is most important, said M.Y. Eqbal, Chief Justice, Madras High Court, at the inauguration of a digital library for women lawyers on the High Court premises on Thursday.
Lauding the suggestion for digital library as innovative, Mr. Eqbal said that he belonged to the old school of thought and wanted lawyers to read the Acts and Sections carefully and then interpret them.
Reading the basics of the legal provisions would only help them.
He urged the Association not to stop subscribing for the other journals with the introduction of the new facility.
Speaking after inaugurating a Reference Section, and the Association's website, D. Murugesan, Judge, Madras High Court, said each one of the members of the association should use the library and benefit from it. He promised more such facilities to the association in the years to come.
On the occasion the members appealed to the Chief Justice to allocate adequate space to the Association. Mr. Eqbal asked Mr. Murugesan to look into the issue and assured the members that he would accept the suggestion from the brother Judge.
D. Prasanna, president, and G. Manjula Devi, secretary of the association, were among those who spoke.
