Lawyers to go on hunger strike

January 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - SALEM:

Demanding that separate courts be established for hearing civil and criminal cases, around 160 lawyers of the Omalur Advocates Association would begin a three-day hunger strike on Wednesday. Though the High Court gave its concurrence to establish separate courts, no action has been taken, said B. Sivaraman, secretary of the association. The lawyers were boycotting the court for the last three months with the demand. The Combined Court Building was functioning at Omalur from 1996. P.M. Raikhana Parveen is the District Munsif cum Judicial Magistrate, and P.T. Jenifer is the Judicial Magistrate of the Fast Track Court.
