The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Wednesday staged a demonstration, protesting the failure of the government in maintaining law and order in Puducherry. Former Ministers, MLAs and part cadre took part in the agitation near the Assembly.
Led by M.A.S. Subramanian, organiser of the DMK’s Puducherry unit, the agitators raised slogans against the government. They criticised the recent incidents of murders, extortion, robbery and chain-snatching in Puducherry. They alleged that inaction of the government had emboldened criminals and life convicts to operate and extort money by making threatening phone calls from behind bars.
The government had lost the confidence of people, who voted N.R. Congress to power with huge expectation.
Stating that there was nothing wrong in Lieutenant Governor Virendra Kataria voicing displeasure over law and order situation, Mr. Subramanian said the LG was duty bound to intervene and question the administration when it failed to deliver the goods. Former Chief Minister R.V. Janakiraman took part in the demo.
