A larvicide sprayer has been pressed into service in dengue-hit Rajapalayam to control mosquitoes.
The machine, attached to a generator, can function round the clock by spraying 50 litres of a mixture of larvicide and diesel every three hours. The equipment, bought at a cost of Rs 4.98 lakh, was commissioned by Municipal Chairperson Dhanalakshmi Selvasubramania Raja in the presence of MLA K. Gopalsamy on Friday.
Virudhunagar Collector V. Rajaraman visited the houses of dengue-affected persons at Pattiyur and Chidambarapuram on Thursday and advised the people to prevent mosquito breeding in their surroundings. He enquired about treatment given to dengue-affected people, according to an official press release.
Meanwhile, fresh cases of viral fever among children in and around Watrap, Srivilliputtur, from some wards in Rajapalayam, among other places, were referred to hospitals in the last two days.
When contacted, a senior health department official said that the public had been told to get themselves screened for viral fever cases in Rajapalayam Government Hospital where facilities to diagnose the exact ailment were available.
