Lankan Navy arrests 20 Rameswaram fishermen

The Sri Lankan Navy arrested at least 20 fishermen for allegedly fishing in Lankan waters after crossing the international maritime border line (IMBL) on Monday night.

According to reliable sources here, the fishermen were fishing on the high seas when the Sri Lankan Navy arrested them at Talaimannar and seized their five boats. They were part of team who had set out for fishing in 679 boats on Monday morning.

Meanwhile the Kayts court in Sri Lanka has extended the remand of 23 fishermen, including four from Rameswaram till October 28, according to the Alliance for the Release of Innocent Fishermen.
