Registering land documents and marriages has become hassle-free: apply online for appointment and head to the office at specified time.
The Registration Department website ( >http://www.tnreginet.net ) provides the link to online appointment. Booking of appointment can be done one month in advance. Visitors will have to indicate any one of the time slots given (10 a.m. to 11 a.m., noon to 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.). Six tokens will be issued for each of the time slots. On completion of the online registration process, a reference number will be provided to the applicant. The applicant has to go the sub-registrar office on the day mentioned and also carry a print out of appointment.
Through this arrangement, 18 tokens will be issued for each sub-registrar office (SRO) for a given day. There are 575 SROs throughout the State. The facility will not be immediately available in 12 offices located in Salem district in view of the model code of conduct for the Yercaud by-election, according to a senior official of the Registration Department. Steps will be taken to ensure that even those who go to SROs without online booking are accommodated, an official release says.
The formal inauguration of the facility was carried out by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at Secretariat on Thursday.
The Chief Minister also commissioned the installation of internet protocol cameras in all SROs. Each SRO would have two cameras. This had been done to improve transparency in the functioning of SROs.
