Preliminary arrangements have started for running the temple car of Lord Saptharishwarar temple at Lalgudi in Tiruchi district after a gap of more than seven-and-a- half decades, said Transport Minister K.N.Nehru on Sunday.


The Minister, who presided over a meeting at Lalgudi on the arrangements to be made for running the temple car, said the car festival of the temple was last held in 1936 and pointed out that the 25-foot-tall temple car had now been renovated.

The car festival was slated for March 18 after a lapse of 75 years, he said.

Mr Nehru instructed the revenue officials to take steps to remove all encroachments around the temple to facilitate movement of the temple car. He had also instructed the officials of the HR and CE, Electricity and Highways department to take necessary steps to provide all amenities to the people. Mahesan Kasirajan, Collector, A. Soundarapandian, MLA, C.A. Raman, District Revenue Officer, Balasubramanian, Joint Commissioner of HR and CE Department, and other officials attended the meeting.
