Labourer hacks wife, children, in-laws

July 07, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

A labourer hacked his wife, children and in-laws on Wednesday.

The police said V. Brammakutti (25), a labourer of Ambasamudram, married S. Rajam alias Karthiga (23) five years ago and they have two girl children, aged about four and two. When Brammakutti, an alcoholic, suspected the fidelity of his wife, he started torturing her, who left her husband with two children to live in her father’s house in the same area. When Brammakutti recently visited the house of his father-in-law Sundara Sekar (50) and asked Karthiga to return to their house with the children, she reportedly refused.

Brammakutti’s father Vadivelu also advised his daughter-in-law against returning to her husband’s house as he was aware of his son’s activities.

Agitated over this development, Brammakutti went to the house of his father-in-law around 5 a.m. on Wednesday and banged at the main door of the house with a sickle. When Ms. Karthiga opened the door, he hacked her with the weapon and attacked Sundara Sekar, mother-in-law S. Muthulakshmi and the two children, who sustained cut injuries on the back and the hands.

As the victims screamed for help, the neighbour and former vice-chairman of Ambasamudram municipality Radhakrishnan rushed to the spot. However, Brammakutti managed to escape. After Mr. Radhakrishnan informed the police and the ambulance service, the victims were rushed to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. Since Ms. Karthiga had sustained cut injuries on both hands and on the neck, her condition was said to be “critical.”

The Ambasamudram police, who have registered a case, are on the lookout for Brammakutti.

When an argument broke out between him and his wife Ajitha Jose (31) on June 30, Anton allegedly assaulted the woman in which she reportedly sustained external and internal injuries. Though admitted to a hospital at Nagercoil, she died on Wednesday.
