It was decided to provide jobs to the kith and kin of deceased employees on compassionate grounds, and grant financial assistance for marriage to the members of the board at the 73{+r}{+d} Board Meeting of Tamil Nadu Labour Welfare Board (TNLWB).

Labour Minister T.M. Anbarasan chaired the meeting on Tuesday in which the annual report of 2009-2010, revised estimate for 2010-2011 and budget estimate 2011-2012 were placed before the committee for approval.

It was decided to increase the assistance for the wards of members of TNLWB towards typewriting and short hand fees from Rs.315 to Rs.1000 and to extend marriage assistance for male worker/ward to Rs.3,000 and for female worker/ward to Rs.5,000 each.

Mr. Anbarasan said that the Labour Welfare Board implemented some of the welfare schemes such as reimbursement of the cost of spectacles, typewriting and short hand fees, hearing aid, artificial limbs and three wheelers, assistance for basic computer training, cash awards for those who excelled in public exams and funeral expenses. He asked the board members to spell out the complaints or suggestions so that the deficiencies could be set right.

Since 2005-2006 till date, TNLWB had spent Rs.3.14 crore through various schemes that had benefitted nearly 1.61 lakh employees.

However, during 2009-2010, a sum of Rs.82.58 lakh was spent by the Welfare Board that benefitted 64,919 workers.

During the current year, about 8,000 people made use of the Holiday Homes in Mamallapuram, Courtallam and Valparai, he said.

The members also gave their approval to upgrade Jeeva Illam, a guest house for trade union leaders.
