Kurangani forest fire: One more trekker dies

The death toll touches 18

The death toll of trekkers caught in the tragic forest at Kurangani hills in Theni touched 18 on Thursday when one of the burn victims succumbed to injuries at a private hospital in Coimbatore.

Jayasree (32), wife Elangovan, died at Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, around 10 a.m. on Thursday. She had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since March 12.

Jayasree, who sustained 70% of burns in the forest fire was initially admitted at Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai, from where she was airlifted to Ganga Hospital on March, 12 for advanced treatment.

“The woman had suffered deep burns that made her condition critical. We did our best to save her,” said S. Raja Sabapathy, Chairman, Department of Plastic Surgery, Hand and Microsurgery and Burns at Ganga Hospital.

Jayasree hails from Samayapuram in Tiruchi district and was settled in Chennai.
