Kumananthozhu, a remote village in Kadamalaigundu-Mayiladumparai union, has got a primary health centre, the 35th PHC in the district here on Friday.

The decades-old dream of the rural people has been fulfilled as from now on, they need not have to trek several kilometres for health care, health officials pointed out. The new PHC will offer health care to more than 25 remote and inaccessible villages in the union. Already, the Department of Health Services had upgraded six primary health centres.

Two more PHCs at Odaipatti and Rajadhani would be upgraded shortly to provide advanced health care to rural people. The district had achieved 82 per cent of hospital delivery. Efforts were on to achieve cent per cent hospital delivery, health officials added.

Similarly, a primary health centre was opened at Poomparai on upper Kodaikanal on the same day. The two PHCs were opened by Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa through video conferencing from Chennai.
