The second reactor of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, which was under maintenance since August last, would be ready for power generation in November second week, said KKNPP Site Director S.V. Jinna here on Friday.

It produced 4,610 million units after it attained criticality on July 10 last year, he said and added that the first reactor generated 15,162 million units of electricity ever since it attained criticality in July 2013.

During an informal chat with the reporters at Disaster Management Rescue Centre at Chettikulam during the mock preparedness drill, Mr. Jinna said both the reactors were functioning exceptionally well. Till Friday, they had generated about 20,000 million units of power.

Mr. Jinna also informed that the concreting of base for the third and fourth reactors of KKNPP was also progressing well as planned.
