Kongu Welfare Trust that runs a group of institutions disbursed scholarships amounting to Rs. 2.8 crore to 1,350 students on Saturday.
The scholarship initiative was as much a tribute to teachers as a gesture of motivation for academic achievers in the engineering, polytechnic, and arts and science colleges, and matriculation school run by the Trust, secretary P.C. Palanisamy said.
Among the scholarship beneficiaries, 330 students in engineering college, 68 in polytechnic college and 176 students in arts and science college received the largest chunk of Rs. 84.5 lakh. In terms of higher individual benefits, 89 Government school students, who had been admitted to the engineering and arts and science college, received nearly Rs. 56.5 lakh. Likewise, 81 sports achievers admitted to the institutions for higher studies received a scholarship of nearly Rs. 49.5 lakh. Other beneficiaries included children of staff who received scholarship worth Rs. 29.5 lakh.
Justice S. Nagamuthu handed over the scholarships in the presence of Mr. Palanichamy, Trust president E.K. Lingamurthy, treasurer E.R. Kaarthikeyan, principal of Kongu Engineering College S. Kuppusamy and correspondent V.K. Muthusamy.
Justice Nagamuthu told the students that positive attitude would stand them in good stead .
