Kodai summer festival losing its sheen

Salubrious climate, mist-capped cliffs and bed of multi-colour flowers at Bryant Park enthralled tourists visiting the hill station from different part of the country this weekend.

Thousands of tourists thronged Bryant Park and Kodaikanal lake since Saturday morning as the 10-day summer festival unfolds. Bryant Park, venue of the festival, was filled with tourists. More than 750 varieties of roses and other flowers decorated the park.

A ‘Taj Mahal’ and ‘peacock’ made of multi-coloured flowers attract the young and the old in the park. Amidst a heavy downpour, the multi-coloured flowers stood out as special attraction.

But year after year, the number of competitors for the flower show is dwindling owing to poor response. Even basic amenities and facilities are not provided in the town to participants, said sources. The competitors have to spend a sizable amount for bringing vegetables and flowers from lower and upper Kodaikanal for display in the show.
