KMDK urges Centre to put back economy on growth trajectory

Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (KMDK)on Tuesday urged the Central Government to evolve mechanisms to rectify setbacks suffered by industrial, trade, and farming sectors, during the three weeks after demonetisation of high-value currencies.

‘Convene meeting’

On its part, the State Government must convene a meeting of senior-level bank officials as was being done by Chief Ministers in the neighbouring States of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, to focus more attention on the problems faced by the people rather than stopping with just opposing demonetisation. Absence of any such initiative in Tamil Nadu was an indicator of the paralysis in governance, KMDK Secretary E.R. Eswaran said in a statement.

Trouble caused to livestock rearers, vegetable traders, and petty shop owners has become perceptible, Mr. Eswaran said urging the Central Government to ensure that the States that will have to lose substantial revenue due to demonetisation do not fall short of funds for implementing welfare schemes for common man. Similar to compensation offered to toll-station operators, the Central Government must provide financial support to tiny and small industries and traders as also large industries, he said.

The Central Government must at the earliest convene meetings of Chief Ministers to chart out the plan of action for meeting the huge expenditure towards paying salaries of government employees. While the BJP came to power promising two crore jobs every year, large numbers of employed people were now facing the ignominy of losing jobs.
