Family members of two men from Ramanathapuram district, who had gone to Iraq for employment and believed to have “got stuck” in their residential area at Erbil, have appealed to Collector K. Nanthakumar to help in their safe return.
N. Nesan and Joseph Mary, parents of N. Nathan (27); and A. Kokila, wife of A. Anandan (35); presented petitions to the Collector, requesting him to take up the case with the government and help them get back their breadwinners. Nathan and Anandan, hailing from Souriyarpattinam and Parukkaikudi villages in Mudukulathur taluk respectively, had gone to Erbil four months ago, through a Chennai-based agents after paying Rs. 90,000 each to work as construction workers with a company in Erbil for a monthly salary of Rs. 30,000.
After civil war broke out in Iraq, both had contacted their families, saying they were safe but wanted to return home. Kokila (24), who is nine months pregnant, said her husband spoke to her about 10 days ago.
S. Sengol Rajan, brother- in-law of Nathan, said he spoke to him on Monday and wanted to return.
