Kidnap bid: two arrested

In a botched kidnap bid, two persons were arrested for attempting to kidnap a municipal councillor at Muneeswara Nagar in Hosur on Thursday.

Councillor Illayaperumal (45) was kidnapped by a gang after he attempted to intervene in a scuffle in the neighbourhood. According to the police, a few men arrived in his neighbour’s house and demanded Rs. 5 lakh. Illayaperumal intervened in the issue after which the gang members turned their attention to him. The men bundled up Illayaperumal and took him off in an auto. However, he jumped off the auto just in time when a police patrol was making rounds in the area. According to the police, Illayaperuman was admitted to Hosur Government Hospital. Hosur police arrested two persons Kutty and Praveen and are on the lookout for three others, including the auto driver.
