Kerosene at subsidised rates to fishermen of Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari

Nearly 16,000 persons belonging to the fishing community of Tuticorin, Tiruneveli and Kanyakumari districts would get kerosene of 200 litres per boat per month at a subsidised rate Rs. 25 per litre.

After taking into account sales tax, excise and transportation cost, the fuel costs Rs. 43.94 per litre. The fisherfolk has been demanding the supply of 200 litres a month.

To support livelihood opportunities of the fisherfolk, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi ordered the supply of kerosene at the concessional rate.

The move would cost the government Rs. 77 crore additionally, according to an official release issued on Satruday.
