Dhanushkodi police have arrested a tourist from Kerala on a charge of flying an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) – a helicamera – at Arichalmunai area violating police order not to fly them.

V. Vivek (20) from Airport Quarters in Thiruvananthapuram, who was part of a group of tourists from the city visiting Dhanushkodi and Arichalmunai, the eastern tip of Rameswaram island, was detained by the patrolling police when he was flying the UAV on Tuesday evening.

He told the police that he and his friend Gokul were working on a music album and wanted to take some aerial shots in the picturesque Dhanushkodi for the album. Gokul, who was the director of the album, was present with him, the police said.

Acting on the direction of Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena, Dhanushkodi police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Vivek and seized the UAV. He was booked under Sections 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery) and 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code, and released on bail.
