Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) should keep up with technological innovations, emerging industries and dynamic markets to compete in the global market, said Vijayalakshmi, Additional Director of Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association (TANSTIA) FNF Service Centre (TFSC), Chennai.
TFSC aimed at empowering small industries for optimal performance and profitability in the growing national and global economy, Ms. Vijayalakshmi said while speaking at a conference on ‘adopting of renewable energy by MSMEs’ organised by the Salem District Small Scale and Tiny Industries Association here recently.
In a fiercely competitive business environment, driven by a persistent digital world, entrepreneurs need to have information at their fingertips, Ms. Vijayalakshmi said.
K. Govindarajan, General Manager, District Industries Centre, said that there was an ever increasing demand for energy in spite of the rising prices of oil and other fossil fuel / depletion of fossil fuels. Energy demand, in particular electricity production, had resulted in creation of fossil fuel-based power plants that let out substantial green house gas / carbon emission into the atmosphere causing climate change and global warming.
Renewable energy sources
In practice, wind, solar and biomass were three emerging renewable sources of energy being exploited the world over to meet the requirements in the various sectors of human activities, Mr. Govindarajan said.
Subodh Kumar, executive, Programmes, Friedrich Naumann Stiftung fur die Freiheit, Germany, made the opening remarks about the programmes and the different services of TANSTIA-FNF Service Centre in Chennai.
Mr. Subodh Kumar stated that with climate issues becoming ever more important in the international and national political agenda, their foundation cooperated with small and medium size enterprises in Tamil Nadu
And hence, TFSC was involved to promote renewable sources of energy with a special focus on solar energy, biogas technology and wind energy.
P. Ashok Kumar, president — Tamil Nadu Solar Energy Developers Association, explained the difficulties in getting the net-metering system for want of quality meters in regular phase to meet the demands.
He said the State Government had to change their policy to support the MSME sector also to get subsidies from the Central and State Governments. He urged the Tamil Nadu Government to provide more support to develop the renewable energy production to encourage more installation of solar power plants.
K. Mariappan, Vice-President of TANSTIA, said that this ISO-9001 certified organisation has been reaching out to SMEs by offering both offline and online assistances. K. Ramesh, Deputy General Manager, NLC, explained the various aspects of solar / wind / hybrid systems for MSMEs.
R. Natarajan, in-charge of Research and Development for Renewable Energy, VIT University, Vellore, spoke on the topic ‘global scenario of renewable energy applications in MSME’.
