Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Virendra Kataria said that he would meet Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in a day or two but would not lodge a formal complaint on the law and order situation in Puducherry with him.
Speaking to The Hindu on Monday from New Delhi, Mr. Kataria, who was on a week-long trip, his first visit to the national capital after he aired his displeasure over the law and order situation in Puducherry, said he felt that time had not come for him to take up the matter with the Home Minister.
He wanted to give Chief Minister N. Rangasamy reasonable time to improve the situation. If it improved he would appreciate him. He had appreciated him when a few transfers were made in police administration.
Asked about the main purpose of his visit, Mr. Kataria said he had come to New Delhi to meet some Ministers to seek their help for restoring the AFT mill and expansion of the Puducherry airport.
Mr. Kataria said that he had no personal problem with the Chief Minister. The problem was with the lack of enforcement. There was a need to ensure the safety and security of people in Puducherry. The rule of law must be restored. If the official machinery failed to take suitable action against anti-social elements and punish them, he had no option but to intervene in the matter.
Mr. Kataria added that he was closely monitoring the developments on a day-to-day basis. If there was no improvement, he would write to the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and talk to the people concerned in New Delhi.
