Karunanidhi writes to PM on references to Nadars in textbook

“Such misleading and derogatory depiction of any community is highly objectionable”

November 16, 2012 12:28 am | Updated June 22, 2016 02:54 pm IST - CHENNAI:

DMK president M.Karunanidhi on Thursday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to use his good offices to remove what he called “wrongful and misleading” references to the Nadar community in the Social Sciences book prescribed for 9 standard students of the CBSE. “The contributions of the community, which made great sacrifices during the freedom struggle and produced political leaders, including K. Kamaraj, have been belittled by the references in the book. It is also historically incorrect to have labelled them as migrants to southern districts of Tamil Nadu,” he said in a letter to the Prime Minister.

Mr. Karunanidhi said such misleading and derogatory depiction of any community was highly objectionable and should have no place in our educational system.

He wanted the Prime Minister to condemn the references and rectify the errors through his good offices at the earliest.
