“I will become Chief Minister in 2016 to wipe out corruption from the State”
“Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M. Karunanidhi is trying to earn the people’s sympathy by stating that this could be his last election,” founder of the Desiya Murpoku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) Vijayakant said here on Sunday, referring to the speech of the former Chief Minister in Coimbatore on Saturday.
Mr. Vijayakant was addressing voters during his campaign for DMDK candidate S.K. Vel in Paramathi, Tiruchengode and Rasipuram in Namakkal constituency.
The DMDK leader alleged that the DMK and the All India Anna Dravida Munetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) had a nexus.
“This is the reason why each party has not taken action against the other for the scams in which they were involved during their tenures in power in the State. Both the parties have affected the people by not doing any good for them and by indulging in activities that went against the welfare of the people,” he said.
Addressing people in Paramathi, he said that he would become Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 2016 to wipe out corruption from the State.
This is the second time that the DMDK leader is campaigning in Namakkal. But, this is the first time he is naming the candidate for the campaign. During his first campaign on March 17, he was forced to campaign for the party symbol and alliance. This was because the party’s then candidate N. Maheswaran opted out of the poll race on the eve of the DMDK leader’s campaign. On Thursday, Maheswaran joined the AIADMK in the presence of Ms. Jayalalithaa.
Mr. Vijayakant’s wife Premalatha campaigned for her brother and party candidate for Salem L.K. Sudhish at Karupur near Salem on Sunday. She assured the voters that he would work for the development of the constituency.
