Karunanidhi to inaugurate Central University at Tiruvarur

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Union Human Resource Development Minister Kabil Sibal and Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will take part in the inauguration of the Central University at Tiruvarur on September 19, according to K. Ponmudi, Minister for Higher Education.

The Minister, along with U. Mathivanan, Dairy Development Minister, and M. Chandrasekaran, Collector, on Thursday inspected the arrangements being made for the opening ceremony. He also visited the additional building at the Collectorate where the university will function initially. He saw the classrooms and laboratory. He also visited the university site.

Later, Mr. Ponmudi told reporters that three higher educational institutions of excellence were coming up in the State, including an Indian Institute of Management in Tiruchi. An initial allotment of Rs.20 crores was allotted for establishing the Central University.

P.P.Sanjay has been appointed the Vice-chancellor and 24 teachers taken. In the nearby Thyagarajapuram, Perumpugalur and Neelathur villages, 516 acres of land was acquired for establishing the university complex. It will be an environment friendly campus.

K.Ganesan, Secretary, Higher Education, accompanied the Minister during the visit.
