Karunanidhi greets Sonia

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Thursday greeted Sonia Gandhi on her impending re-election as Congress president. [According to reports reaching here, the announcement regarding her re-election is expected to be made formally on Friday.]

Describing Ms. Gandhi's election for the fourth time as a “record in the history of the Congress party,” Mr. Karunanidhi, in his message to her, said: “With you at the helm of affairs of the party, the performance of the Congress has been impressive and its popularity among the masses has been growing. You have made the party a great instrument of service for the cause of the poor and to protect the sovereignty and integrity of the nation.”
