: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Friday said while the AIADMK had fulfilled 54 promises listed in the manifesto during the last Assembly polls, it was the DMK that had reneged on its promises made in the manifesto for the 2006 polls.
Countering the DMK’s campaign against her government at a public meeting in Villupuram, Ms. Jayalalithaa claimed that in the last five years over 12 lakh people were given house pattas and over 1.28 lakh youngsters were given jobs through employment camps which were conducted through private organisations.
She also added that as per records of Employees Provident Fund Organisation, over one crore people were given employment.
Protected drinking water for over lakh residential areas had been provided by her government.
Ms. Jayalalithaa charged the DMK with deception and said the party gave so many promises in its poll manifesto but failed to implement most of them during its tenure. She also said the DMK had bandied about hollow promises of creating of satellite cities, an international sports institution, sports centre at each district and BPOs in all districts.
“The DMK has not taken any step to extend East Coast Road from Cuddalore to Kanyakumari as promised in the manifesto,” she charged. In the latest manifesto Mr. Karunanidhi had not said that he would continue to provide cable television connection at cheaper rates, she pointed out.
Blaming Mr. Karunanidhi for his contradictory positions on prohibition, Ms. Jayalalithaa said voters would be able to see through them.
