Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi on Friday dismissed reports that Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers M.K. Alagiri had submitted his resignation letter to him.
“Let the reports remain as reports,” the Chief Minister said, responding to a question. When the question was repeated, he replied in the negative.
He was speaking to reporters after chairing a meeting of party legislators here.
On Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's observation that the Congress-DMK ties were as strong as ever, he said the same opinion was expressed by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, and that was the truth. The seat-sharing talks with the Congress would begin after Pongal.
To a question on the possibility of parties, including the PMK, joining the DMK-led front, he said both sides had sent signals to each other. The date for negotiations had not yet been fixed.
Mr. Karunanidhi declined to react to a question on a Delhi court holding “maintainable” a private complaint filed by Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy seeking prosecution of the former Minister, A. Raja, in the 2G spectrum case.
Mr. Karunanidhi reiterated his position that if Mr. Raja was found guilty, the party would take action against him. Asked for his reaction to AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa's call to her party members to focus their campaign prominently on the spectrum issue, he said the issue was blown out of proportion.
