DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Sunday condemned the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) Club for denying entry to the sitting judge of the Madras High Court Justice, D. Hariparandaman, and two senior lawyers as they were attired in ‘dhoti.’

“Dhoti is an integral part of Tamil culture. Denying entry to a person in dhoti is condemnable,” he said in a statement. If there were restrictions on a particular dress, it was for the State government to intervene and remove them.

Reacting to reports that the services of 742 Tamil teachers appointed on contract were terminated, he said that if the reports were true, the government should regularise their services.

Amend Act: Ramadoss PMK founder Dr. Ramadoss urged the government to amend the Act for registration of cooperative societies to end “the culture of clubs denying entry to those turning up in dhoti.” He termed the incident the most unfortunate.
