Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founder-leader Vijayakant has accused Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi of having betrayed his mentor and party founder-leader C.N. Annadurai by joining hands with the Congress.

Addressing an election rally here on Saturday night, Mr. Vijayakant said that Anna had opposed the Congress tooth and nail and relentlessly fought to unseat the party from power in the 1967 election, but Mr. Karunanidhi betrayed the leader by aligning with the party.

“The DMK leader has no moral right to claim himself to be ‘Annavin Anbu Thambi’ (Loveable brother of Anna),” he said, and blamed the DMK and the Congress for ceding Katchatheevu to Sri Lanka.

He also hit out at the AIADMK and the DMK for failing to resolve the vexatious fishermen issue. The fishermen had been facing the problem for several years and the two parties which ruled the State alternatively for five decades did nothing to redress their grievances, he charged.
