Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Thursday announced the suspension of the notification of the Tamil Nadu State Agricultural Council Act.

This was to respect the views of agriculturists that traditional farming should be protected and those of the press, an official release said.

A Bill, adopted in the Budget session of the Assembly, was framed after accepting the recommendations of agriculture scientists on the regulation of agricultural practice.

The Chief Minister noted that at the time of introduction or consideration of the Bill neither the allies of the ruling party nor the Opposition expressed opposition to the legislation. The Bill was passed unanimously, he pointed out.
