Karunanidhi against closure of one-teacher schools

November 26, 2013 09:58 am | Updated 09:58 am IST - CHENNAI:

DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Monday alleged that the State government had issued oral instruction for closing one-teacher schools following drop in student enrolment.

In a statement here, he said orders were issued for converting two-teacher schools into one-teacher ones and closure of one-teacher schools. “The government has issued oral instruction as formal order will evoke protest. The decision has caused enormous hardship to teachers.”

Compensation

Mr. Karunanidhi said the government had not taken any step to release compensation to farmers who lost cattle to foot-and-mouth disease.
