A sum of Rs. 7 crore will be spent under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the district during the current financial year towards 2.57 lakh man days of work, said Collector E.Vallavan.
Mr.Vallavan, who inspected the work being executed under MNREGS in Nenjiladikanni and Poovam panchayats, said that irrigation channels would be dredged and supply channels would be cleaned under the scheme. He said the scheme would be utilised for felling ‘karuvel’ trees. The district administration had identified 50 irrigation channels that need urgent and immediate repair and maintenance works.
Mohamad Mansur, Additional Collector, and Shanmugasundaram, Superintending Engineer, Public Works Department, were present.
