Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP Kanimozhi met the party’s south zone organising secretary and her half-brother, M.K. Alagiri, at his residence in Madurai on Sunday.
Ms. Kanimozhi was here in connection with the marriage of a party functionary in which Mr. Alagiri also took part. After the meeting that lasted more than an hour at the residence of the former Union Minister, both Mr. Alagiri and Ms. Kanimozhi refused to talk to the waiting media. Contrary to the tradition of their party, both did not address the marriage.
This was the first public function that Mr. Alagiri took part in after the DMK withdrew its support to the UPA government. He even skipped the party executive committee meeting recently held in Chennai.
The meeting assumed significance in the backdrop of the high command sending notices last week to 10 party functionaries, considered loyalists of Mr. Alagiri, for not participating in a public meeting recently organised in the city in connection with the birthday celebration of party treasurer, M.K. Stalin.
Mr. Alagiri and Ms. Kanimozhi also paid their condolences to Kamalai Thiagarajan, former Assembly Speaker P.T.R. Palanivel Rajan’s elder brother, who passed away here on Saturday.
