Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi was hospitalised here on Sunday morning following a sudden illness.
The Rajya Sabha member was reportedly found unconscious at her CIT Colony residence and rushed to a private hospital in Alwarpet, where her condition was said to be stable.
There was no information about the nature of her illness. Party functionaries and doctors remained tight-lipped.
Hospital authorities issued a press release late on Sunday stating that Ms. Kanimozhi was admitted for “tiredness and exhaustion” and had been advised complete rest for the next few days. The release said she was recovering well and would be discharged from the hospital soon.
Till 4 p.m., the hospital maintained that Ms. Kanimozhi had not been admitted at all.
An hour later, senior DMK leaders, including M.K. Stalin, R. Durai Murugan, A. Raja, Poongothai Aladi Aruna, T.K.S. Elangovan and S. Jagatratchagan, visited the hospital. Around 5.30 p.m., party president M. Karunanidhi arrived and spent an hour with his daughter.
Media persons were prevented from entering the hospital premises.
Ms. Kanimozhi’s personal staff told journalists that she was preparing notes for the Parliament session commencing this week and was visibly exhausted in the last two days.
