The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd on Wednesday announced that both the reactors of Madras Atomic Power Station, Kalpakkam, were operating safely as all the structures and equipment were designed to withstand wind velocity of even 160 km/hour.

An official release issued in the backdrop of cyclone Nilam said: “If the cyclone intensifies, the problem may hardly arise with the transmission towers. All agencies have been given instructions for remedial measures and kept on standby alert. Additional personnel have been deployed to keep vigil on important systems.”

Another press release said T.J. Kotteeswaran, Station Director of Kaiga Generating Station – 3&4, Karnataka, will take over charge from K. Ramamurthy as Station Director, Madras Atomic Power Station on Wednesday.
