The Madras High Court on Thursday adjourned to September 8 a petition by Kalanithi Maran, chairman of the SUN TV network, seeking to quash a case registered by the City Central Crime Branch against him.
Justice K.B.K. Vasuki directed the Public Prosecutor to get instructions.
The petitioner said P.V. Sivaprasad of Vijayawada, in his complaint, had said he was appointed distributor of Gemini Telugu channels for Krishna district during 2007, and there was an increase in business because of him. The complainant had said his distributorship was terminated in December 1999 and a subscription commission of Rs.88.81 lakh was due to him, and he received only Rs.38.91 lakh. The complainant had alleged when he went to the petitioner’s office in July this year, he was not allowed; some persons threatened him.
Mr. Maran said Mr. Sivaprasad had entered into a transaction with only Kal Comm. Pvt. Ltd., which had nothing to do with the Sun TV network, a separate legal entity. The complaint was made with the intention of extorting money.
