Kabaddi tourney begins

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Inter-collegiate Kabaddi Tournament for men began at Kamaraj College here on Monday.

It was declared open by Assistant Superintendent of Police, Tuticorin Town, P. Arun Sakthi Kumar, in the presence of D. Nagarajan, Principal and chairman of the college. Thirty-six teams participated in 18 matches on the first day, T. Balasingh, Director of Physical Education and convenor of the tournament, said. Teams from 43 colleges in Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts would take part in the four-day tournament, he said. Evening matches would be conducted under floodlights. Twelve colleges from Tuticorin district, 19 from Tirunelveli district and 12 colleges from Kanyakumari district would compete in the tournament.
