The State government on Monday ordered a judicial enquiry to probe the cause of the death of Dharmapuri Dalit youth E. Ilavarasan, whose body was found near a railway track behind the Dharmapuri Government Arts College on Thursday.

The Commission of Inquiry would be headed by S.R. Singaravelu, former Judge of the Madras High Court, according to a statement issued by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday.

The constitution of the Commission of Inquiry had been made in view of doubts and different opinions expressed by Ilavarasan’s father, social activists, political leaders and the media on the circumstances leading to the death of the youth. The probe panel would ascertain truth behind the death, Ms. Jayalalithaa said.
