Madras High Court judge V. Ramasubramanian traced facets of modern jurisprudence in Kamba Ramayanam at a special lecture delivered at the SASTRA University near here on Saturday.
The poetic genius of Kamban shines in all its magnificent hues dovetailing legend with legal intricacies, he admired the great Tamil work at the Knowledge Leadership Forum lecture at the School of Law at SASTRA University.
Mr. Ramasubramanian said the genesis of international refugee law, tax exemptions, diplomatic immunity, and promissory estoppels were in the Kamba Ramayanam at the lecture. He analysed the allegories of justice in Indian and Western traditions and how colour black came to symbolise dharma.
The richness and literary flavour of Kamban that abounded in his work reveals lessons on jurisprudence, justice, as a treasure to be preserved for posterity, the judge said. Mr. Ramasubramanian gave away annual scholarships amounting to Rs. 84 lakh to 834 students based on their academic performances. Additional Solicitor General G.R. Swaminathan, senior advocate N. Venkatraman, Vice-Chancellor R. Sethuraman, Dean S. Vaidyasubramanian, Head, School of Law, Ravisekhar Rahu, and Director, DDE, SASTRA, were present.
