DMK on Saturday pledged a sum of Rs. 25 lakh towards the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for contributions towards relief activities in flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.

Party chief M. Karunanidhi expressed grief over the loss of lives in the floods and expressed sympathies with those affected.

In a statement, he referred to the appeal made by Mr. Modi and said a cheque for Rs. 25 lakh will be handed over to the Prime Minister in person by the party’s Rajya Sabha members towards the PMNRF.

Meanwhile, BJP’s Tamil Nadu ally MDMK general secretary Vaiko has announced a donation of Rs. 10 lakh towards the relief fund on behalf of his party.

Over 200 persons have been killed in the worst floods to have devastated the northern state in a century, prompting Defence forces, among others, to launch extensive rescue operations.
