According to the police, Gopi and Sivakumar were carrying the jewellery and cash after locking the shop, when they were rounded up by a four member gang.

The men reportedly sprinkled chilli powder on their faces and grabbed the jewellery and cash and took off.

On hearing their cries for help, few locals managed to catch one of the men, Stalin (29) of Athumedu, and handed him over to the police.

Initial inquiries have revealed the involvement of a Moorthy, a man who ran a jewellery shop in the same area. He was also a financier. Moorthy was allegedly one of the men who escaped from the scene of crime.
